What we do
AI automation for manufacturing.
We help factories eliminate paper, manual data entry, and disconnected systems, replacing them with intelligent workflows that learn directly from the floor.
Our software connects machines, ERPs, and people in real time, turning tribal knowledge, production, and quality data into systems that run smoother, faster, and smarter.
Backed by the founders of HubSpot, Typeform, Apollo, Hustle Fund, Brickyard, and more.
Our mission
We are here to reindustrialize America.
That means bringing world-class technology back to the factory floor, empowering operators, restoring pride in American manufacturing, and helping people do their best work again.
We believe great companies are built by great people, together, in person. We train together, eat together, and build products that move the needle for real industries and real people.
About the role
Build the backbone of the plant.
As a Backend Engineer, you will design and build the data layer that connects ERPs, MES, QMS, PLCs, sensors, paperwork, and the tribal knowledge of senior operators. This is Harmony's backbone: the infrastructure that powers real-time visibility, AI search, workflow automation, and plant-wide action.
You will work on-site or embedded close to customer environments, building the systems that ingest, normalize, structure, and move operational data across the plant. This is infrastructure work with real operational stakes, where reliability, speed, and practical judgment matter.
Success is measured by how well the systems you build hold up in real factory environments and how much leverage they create across deployments.
Do not apply if you
- Will not relocate or travel.
- Are unwilling to work in person and put in long hours.
- Are not excited by infrastructure, industrial systems, and messy real-world data.
- Do not want to reindustrialize America.
What you'll do
Build the backbone. Work close to the floor.
Build the backbone.
- Design and build the systems that ingest and unify data from ERP, MES, QMS, PLCs, sensors, paperwork, and internal plant workflows.
- Create reliable backend services, pipelines, and data models that turn fragmented factory information into one operational layer.
- Build the infrastructure that powers real-time visibility, AI search, reporting, alerts, and workflow automation.
- Own performance, reliability, and maintainability across production systems that operate in real customer environments.
Work close to the floor.
- Spend time on-site with customers to understand how plant systems actually work and where data breaks down in practice.
- Work directly with operators, supervisors, planners, and leadership to structure systems around the realities of the floor.
- Debug messy edge cases across machines, software, paperwork, and human workflows.
- Translate real operational complexity into backend systems that are clean, usable, and durable.
Build for reuse.
- Turn deployment learnings into reusable infrastructure, abstractions, and patterns across the Harmony platform.
- Create adapters, connectors, and internal tooling that make future deployments faster and more reliable.
- Help define the data foundations that support multiple plants, workflows, and product modules over time.
- Partner closely with product, frontend, AI, and deployment teams to build systems that scale with the business.
Tech stack
Examples, not requirements.
- Languages: Python, TypeScript.
- Backend & data: Postgres, APIs, event-driven systems, queues, ETL/data pipelines.
- Infrastructure: Docker, Kubernetes, Terraform, cloud infrastructure.
- Systems: ERP/MES/QMS integrations, PLC and sensor data, observability, authentication, internal tooling.
- Nice to have: experience supporting AI systems with structured data, retrieval, and production workflows.
Minimum qualifications
What you need on day one.
- 0–3+ years building and shipping backend or infrastructure systems with strong CS fundamentals.
- Strong experience in backend development with Python, TypeScript, or similar languages.
- Comfortable working across APIs, databases, services, and production infrastructure.
- Able to reason clearly about data models, system design, reliability, and performance.
- Excited by ambiguity, customer environments, and building in person close to the problem.
Preferred qualifications
What gets our attention.
- Experience building data pipelines, backend platforms, or internal infrastructure tools.
- Experience integrating with complex enterprise systems or operational software.
- Familiarity with industrial systems, manufacturing software, sensors, PLCs, or machine data.
- Experience with cloud infrastructure, containerized systems, CI/CD, and observability.
- Strong judgment on when to build something custom and when to create reusable abstractions.
Success metrics
How we measure the work.
- Data reliability: systems are accurate, stable, and trusted by teams on the floor.
- Time-to-value: new plants and workflows can be connected and deployed quickly.
- Operational impact: backend systems meaningfully improve visibility, speed, and automation across the plant.
- Platform leverage: infrastructure and connectors can be reused across multiple deployments.
Culture & perks
What you get.
- In-person only full-time, with frequent travel to customer sites.
- Free housing if deployed.
- Weekly team dinners to build connection and community.
- Gym, sauna, and cold plunge access, plus a personal trainer two times a week. HQ is in Chattanooga, TN.
- Work directly with the founders every day with full ownership.
- High-trust, high-intensity environment built on craft, speed, and impact.
