Manufacturing Lead Time Calculator

Break a job's journey into queue, setup, run, move, and inspection time to see total lead time and how little of it is truly value-added. Your numbers stay in your browser.

How this is calculated

Manufacturing lead time is the sum of every time element a job passes through, whether or not that time adds value. Only run time actually transforms the product; the rest is waiting and handling.

total lead time = queue + setup + run + move + inspection
value-added ratio = run time ÷ total lead time × 100

The equivalent calendar figure divides total hours by 24; the workday figure divides by 8 for an eight-hour shift.

calendar days = total hours ÷ 24
workdays = total hours ÷ 8

Reading it well

To turn this ratio into a formal flow metric, use the process cycle efficiency calculator; to connect lead time to work in process, try the WIP and Little's Law calculator, or read the lean manufacturing guide.

Find where the hours are hiding

Harmony connects your machines, systems, and paperwork into one real-time operational layer, no rip-and-replace, so queue and wait time between steps become visible instead of invisible. Read the CLS case study.
